The first thing that can be noticed when looking at the Hammerhead TWS is a certain similarity to regular AirPods, which starts with the device’s general form and ends with the earphone design. The fact is that each earpiece is equipped with a 13-mm driver and is capable of delivering fantastic performance to most mobile gamers.
The headset received the Bluetooth 5.0 specification, support for SBC and AAC codecs (to the delight of Apple fans), as well as an exciting feature, “game mode,” in which the latency is minimized, which allows you to play online games with a minimum of delays and without an out-of-sync sound. The navigation is done via touchpads, and the proprietary Razer Hammerhead True Wireless utility for iOS and Android is used for further configurations.

Razer Hammerhead TWS Specifications – not finished
Type: Over-ear Noise Cancelling Headphones | Bluetooth: 4.0 | Battery: 30 Hours | Charging: 4 Hours | Drivers: Dynamic | Drivers-Size: 45 mm | Weight: 385g
Package
The device is packed in a very durable and tough, stylish box in the branded rich green and black colors. Inside are the two earbuds, a charging case, a wrist strap, a USB-A to Type-C braided charging cable, silicone ear tips, documentation, and a couple of stickers.
Design & Ergonomy
The experience begins with a relatively compact case in the form of an elongated oval pill. The top of the case is attached to one magnet, and the accessory’s quality raises questions and some concerns: the top is too flimsy, it crunches when opened, and it also slightly loosens on its hinges.
There are no questions about the materials: the case is entirely made of smooth and non-marking matte plastic, and on the side of the case, there is a pair of holes for a very unusual accessory – a wrist strap.
The interior of the case is straightforward but well thought out due to a few reasons:
- Only 2 pins for each earphone are used for charging, but each earphone and each channel in the case have built-in magnets so that Hammerhead TWS stay locked while charging.
- Inside the case, a Razer silicone pad serves as a decorative role and protects the device from any scratches.
- The earpieces position in the case has changed places: the right earpiece is in the left slot, and the left one is in the right.
The Hammerhead True Wireless can be used as a headset; thus, you can listen to music and answer calls.
Whatever one may say, it is impossible to avoid comparisons of the headset with AirPods since they have a very similar shape, and their fit in places is very similar. As well as all other ergonomic features. Razer headphones simply fit into the ear, providing you with a decent amount of passive noise insulation.
The silicone tips help the situation slightly since they improve the contact with the ear and allow TWS headphones to sit more tightly. However, I do not recommend shaking your head much even in this case – the headphones can simply fall out of the ears. In short, although they benefit from IPX4 water protection, they are not suitable for sports.
The headphone controls are touch-sensitive but not the most convenient – the front part of the headphones, where the touch panels are located, lies under your fingers.
At first, you have to literally search for this panel with your finger to pause the track or answer an incoming call. Speaking of phone calls, the microphone is good for conversations, sending audio messages on the go and taking audio notes, nothing to criticize.
Bluetooth & Technology
The gaming earphones do not have any unusual features such as active noise isolation, so it stably works for about 4 hours on a single charge.
With the charging case, the headphones will last for another 12 hours, which in total gives about 16 hours of work - an excellent result for TWS gaming headphones. Battery charging is done in about an hour and a half, so even with the most active use of the Hammerhead TWS, it will have to be charged well if every 2-3 days.
It is clear that with active use of the device in conversations, the operating time is slightly reduced, so here you should expect only 14-15 hours of operation and about 3.5 hours of operation of the headphones themselves.
The game mode itself seems to be necessary, but it seems to be not the most useful one. For the most part, TWS headphones are used with mobile devices, PCs, and even consoles, although it is much more convenient to use full-size ears.
Now the main question: is this feature essential? I never tested it with a PC since I didn’t have a Bluetooth module at hand, but I tried to play on an iPhone and watch a video, and there were no delays.
In multiplayer games like CoD: Mobile, I did not feel delays and desynchronization, but in fairness, I have not noticed this on AirPods either.
Compared with many other headsets with a similar price tag, this option may be in demand on the Razer TWS, but I would not say that this is a function of paramount importance.
With a good connection (which I have repeatedly observed with several other flagship headsets), delays in games are almost imperceptible. So in comparison with many other wireless gaming earbuds, the low wireless transmission delay may be in demand on the Razer TWS.
The connection stability of the Razer Hammerhead TWS connection has not resulted in any complaints from me, but in the current situation it is not possible to test them fully, so I think that Razer has a decent margin of reliability, and that they will not lose communication in difficult situations.
Sound Quality
The sound struck me very pleasantly. I would even say that it’s beautiful! For Razer Hammerhead TWS’s class, of course. As befits a gaming headphone, the Razer Hammerhead TWS has a V-shaped frequency response, so both bass and treble are emphasized here especially clearly, but how they sound!
The bass plays softly and resiliently without banging your ears. But at the same time, they really rock! The main advantage of these earbuds is that you get incredible pleasure from them when you just listen to music. They do not hammer, they just pump, and for such a sound they can be forgiven a lot.
The mid-range frequencies against all this background is a little shaded by bass and treble, but it is also heard well. The second big advantage is the presence of a fairly wide stage and good intelligibility when sounding.
The Hammerhead TWS was distinguished by its insane volume capacity. While other models reached 50% of their maximum volume, Hammerhead only needed 30% to achieve the same result.
The silicone ear tips increase the amount of bass by a bit, but also the sound itself, especially in the high frequencies, became a little cleaner and more detailed.
Most likely, the silicone ear tips fill parts of the space in the ears better, due to which the Razer TWS sit more tightly and release less sounds outside – now all the music stream is concentrated in the ears which has a positive effect on the overall perception. It is therefore not necessary to touch the equalizer.
Compared to the AirPods, the Razer have noticeably emphasized the bass, but they still don’t sound as bassy as I expected, recalling my experience listening to the Razer Hammerhead Pro v2.
At the same time, Razer has slightly better detail and positioning, and this, as you know, can be used not only in music, but also in games. And yet I did not notice any real advantage in sound with AirPods – each pair of plugs just plays in its own way, and this is a matter of personal preference. But I liked the Razer’s sound more than regular AirPods.
Conclusion
The Razer Hammerhead TWS are excellent fully wireless earbuds with a fairly traditional earbud design and the same familiar performance.
For less than $100, all the most relevant technologies for gaming have been integrated into the device. It is equipped with powerful drivers that highlight not only electronic music genres, but also different nuances of games, so it is suitable for all kinds of applications.
The most noticeable drawback, is the lack of any sound insulation. Therefore, in noisy places it will not be as comfortable to use them as any other plugs, but if we talk about headphones in general, they are distinguished by a decent assertive sound, decent autonomy, good ergonomics, and also a very impressive volume reserve.
