3. Package

Overall 4/5

In addition to the headphones and cable, the package turned out to be a standard “Razer” package. There are two stickers, a manual and what it’s supposed to be a “thank you” note from the company’s CEO.

Note that the headset is not USB – it must be connected via a 4-pin 3.5mm connector at the end of the 130cm cable. The jack itself is angled (90 degrees). This is extremely convenient for computer and mobile devices.

The set also contains an extension cable 2 meters long and two practical reusable rubber ties. We regret that there is no carrying case that would have facilitated the transport of the headset.

4. Design & Ergonomy

Overall 4/5

The thoughtful design of the Razer Kraken brings refinement and pleasant comfort. Everything is designed to soften the presence of foam placed at the level of the skull. The ears are also oval-shaped and nestle snugly against the ears. The faux leather design brings a touch of elegance and transparency, and the ultra-fine fabric adds a touch of sophistication to the whole. The result is a headset that doesn’t weigh much when worn, even though its average weight is over 322g.

Build Quality

We appreciate the strength and resilience of the Razer headphones, and the Razer Kraken is no exception. The brand used materials strong enough to make these headphones. This includes a headband (the part that comes in contact with the head) and knitted earpads. The outside of the earpads is made of faux leather to give them a prestigious and luxurious look. To make the gaming headset even more popular, Razer has used a cooling gel inside the headband to keep you cool even after hours of play. We can safely say that its use will not affect its strength and durability. Whereas the small LED on the mouthpiece is undoubtedly a handy addition, indicating when the microphone is off.

When it comes to comfort, keep in mind that the level of comfort is comparable to other Razer gaming headsets. However, we’ve noticed that the headband is wider and softer, making it easier to fit over a padded head. When you put the headset on your ears, you immediately feel a soft sensation. The ear cushions are so wide that you don’t have to worry about damaging your ears. We also appreciate a cooling gel’s presence for extra comfort, especially during the first hour of use.

Besides, the foam padding on the headphones adds to the comfort, and the ear cushions rotate so you can adjust the headband size to your liking. As far as we know, we didn’t feel any discomfort with the Razer Kraken, and the wearing time was quite smooth.

The connection is made using a cable with 3.5 mm mini-jacks. This cable is also supplied with remote control for the volume control knob and its on/off switch. The switch turns the microphone on and off, and the scroll wheel is used to adjust the volume. The cable is not unplugged and, unfortunately, cannot be repaired in case of failure.

The USB sound card is connected through a 2-meter long cable protected by an unusually thick fabric cover. We particularly appreciate the 3.5 jack plug, which is compatible with nearly all devices, including smartphones, handheld consoles, music players, and game consoles. This is not possible!

The headset is also equipped with a splitter that allows you to connect your Kraken Pro to a standard computer. There is sound at one end and a microphone at the other. The controls and volume knobs on the connection cable, including the on/off switch, are very sensitive and can be operated quickly even with the headset, despite the facts.

5. Microphone

One of Kraken gaming headsets’ advantages is that they all have detachable microphones, which are ideal for storage, as they can be easily removed and moved when not needed.

We found that the microphone is flexible and robust. Its flexibility allows it to be positioned according to the level at which it is placed, and its robustness allows it to adapt really well when placed.

As far as the microphone’s quality is concerned, you will find that its signal is quite clear and its voice is perfect. Another improvement is that the microphone’s capsule does not pick up ambient noise, allowing you to faithfully reproduce your voice when playing with your friends.

At the same time, there is a vulnerability: the sensitivity of the microphone is quite low. To fix this problem, use the “Volume Normalization” setting in Synapse or move the signal to a sufficiently high level. We recommend that you use the “Ambient Noise Reduction” and “Sound Clarity” settings very carefully not to affect the quality of the recording.

6. Sound Quality

Razer Kraken entertains us with the presence of 50 mm driver’s, which provide very powerful sound, including a really balanced stereo sound. For a demanding gamer, all these details are important. Even though one might not like the sound’s precision, we consider the sound quality of the Razer Kraken to be very balanced, as everything is in one piece.

The midrange is fairly even, allowing for a more balanced playback. In the 2-5 kHz range, we can we notice a few flaws that can ba corrected to a small degree using the equalizer, making the sound response less passive and less boring.

7. Conclusion

Overall 4/5

We conclude that the Razer Kraken is designed for professionals and is a great and effective tool for all inspiring gamers. If you like multiplayer games, this headset is ideal because it provides nice sound and microphone quality. The presence of artificial leather, knitting, and thick foam gives the Razer Kraken a dignified, pleasant, and classy look. The headphones are impressive, but bulky, and despite not being the lightest gaming headsets, prolonged wearing is not a problem. Razer Kraken is certainly not the best headphones of the brand on the market, though it’s apparent Razer has improved its game.
