The level of sound quality and build quality of Sennheiser Momentum for the value was great. The first Momentum was distinguished by its construction built of stainless steel, leather, and plastic. These materials can also be found in the latest model. The positive impression was outdone by Sennheiser Momentum 2.0, the second generation of Momentum Wireless.

These Sennheiser headphones do not have such outstanding analytical skills as Grado, but they reproduce the music clearly and vividly. They can play energetically and not afraid to emphasize certain accents. Appropriate moderation has been maintained in the bass area.

Depending on your needs, Sennheiser sells Momentum 2 in multiple versions. The headset is available in different versions: on-ear or over-ear as well as wireless or with cable. When buying, you should pay attention to smartphone compatibility, as there are special versions for iOS and Android.

Unlike its predecessor, Sennheiser Momentum 2 Wireless is now more portable thanks to the foldable earcups. Its cable is detachable, sits tight, and can also be locked. Instead of being on the left, it is now on the right – probably because most people carry their smartphone in their right trouser pocket.

For a premium wireless headphone, the package isn’t too generous. A small cable remote control with a microphone is also included in the package of Sennheiser 2.0, documentation, and a detachable cable with a remote control compatible either on iOS devices or on Android devices depending on what device you use. Beware that you can only pick one of the two cables.

For almost $250 we would have expected to get both cables. Some functions will be limited, but you can listen to music with any device, Android, or iOS.

4. Design & Ergonomy

The elegant appearance of the Sennheiser Momentum 2 Wireless is immediately apparent when you take them out of the package. The all-leather headband, the elegant ear cups on adjustable steel rails, and the soft Momentum 2.0 Wireless upholstery on the earcups look very attractive. Later, when put on the head, nothing presses or disturbs in any way whatsoever. The comfort is top-notch, which, for a somewhat moderately heavy over-ear type of wireless headphone, Momentum 2 is one of the best-fitting headphones in its price range.

Moderate contact pressure ensures a secure hold. Due to its low weight and the foam padding, it is hardly noticeable when put on. You should only take it off every now and then to give your ears some fresh air.

All controls are located on the right cup. The power button turns the headset on/off and pairs with other devices. You can also use NFC technology for pairing in case your device can connect via NFC. The multifunction button changes the volume when moving up and down, and when pressed, performs different actions. It is worth remembering which combination of these manipulations is responsible for what, and the system will seem very convenient. Besides controls, built into the earcups is an integrated microphone for voice calls so that you can make calls using headphones.

5. Bluetooth & Technology

4/5

Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 wireless can pair wirelessly and remember up to 8 connections. The headphones have Bluetooth 4.0, aptX compatibility, NFC, and Noise reduction (which cannot be deactivated wirelessly).

The headphones can play music in a 10 meters range in Bluetooth and provide a record of 22 hours of stable music playback via aptX Bluetooth with noise canceling (and even more at low volume levels). When the battery is empty, you can connect the cable to them and continue listening in passive mode.

When operating via Bluetooth, the playback is clean, transparent, and, despite the bass accent, not poorly balanced. Still, the sound was varied, quite dynamic, and musical. It is based on a strong bass foundation, and one cannot complain about poor-quality wireless transmission.

6. Noise Canceling

4/5
4/5

Sennheiser’s proprietary NoiseGuard noise-canceling technology diminishes the noises of the outside world. It cannot keep up with Bose QC35 or Sony MDR-1000X and offer the same silence, but the noise-canceling approach seems more natural: the office’s noise almost disappears, whereas the airplane’s hum is barely audible.

The quality of active noise cancelation of Momentum 2 Wireless headphones is slightly enhanced over its forerunner. The passive noise suppression is improved. Now, music is barely audible to the outside world as the closed over-ear attenuates ambient noise better.

7. Sound Quality

5/5
5/5

As we turned on the music, we heard the Momentum’s familiar sound character, which never lost a grain of excitement and excitement in the process of getting rid of the cables. It’s amazing how similar sound is with and without cable. It gets a little tighter with a wired connection, although you definitely won’t lose anything without it.

The Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 wireless headphones do not reach into the lowest register. Since it cannot perform the sub-basses with confidence, it’s more suitable reproducing calm, relaxing music, classical music, baroque, or jazz. To our astonishment, Sennheiser managed to make Momentum 2.0 instill an unusually natural character into the music. The high-frequency were satisfactory. They pleasantly built up upon the warm upper mid-range. As a result, it sounded airy and yet not too bright or powerful without appearing too heavy or sluggish.

Momentum’s main advantage is not the high quality of low frequencies but in the excellent middle range. Everything from vocals to guitar is characterized by enviable meticulousness, which alone, without considering the lower price, provides a win over the QuietComfort 35. Momentum 2.0’s dynamics are superb—their impeccable rhythm and groovy energy always hold the listener’s attention. As with the other frequency sub-bands, the treble is remarkably balanced; open and legible, they do not tend to be harsh, even with low-quality recordings.

The rich and full-bodied sound is characterized by composure and refinement rarely found in Bluetooth headphones. The punchy and detailed lows bring energy to the whole composition without overwhelming the higher frequencies. The closed-back Momentum 2.0’s sound is also surprisingly spacious, offering musical instruments plenty of room to breathe even in the most intense arrangements.

The size of the soundstage was very decent for its price range. But it didn’t quite keep up with that of the next higher league. Momentum 2.0 Wireless knew how to please, especially in the soundstage. Instruments built up nicely, accommodating a three-dimensional sound impression.

8. Conclusion

4/5
4/5

Momentum handles the beats and rhythm with a lot of attention and builds a uniform foundation. The headphones reproduce the space well. Without revolutionary transformations, they sound coherent. Thanks to the excellent noise insulation from the outside, Sennheiser Momentum 2 will prove themselves very well at home and in the conditions of travelers. The 18-ohm nominal impedance allows you to work effectively with portable equipment, with no problems achieving high volume levels.

Many who had a taste for original design, excellent workmanship, and very good sound appreciated the old Momentum headphones. Now, Momentum 2 Wireless took their place. The premium model, priced at approximately $250, is not the most expensive headphones from Sennheiser, yet it enjoys a fantastic manufacturing quality with leather all around the headband and the ear pads. The frame which the headset is built upon is made of aluminum and looks timelessly elegant in brown, black, and cream colors.
