Check out this new Audio-Technica ATH-M50X review, which offers a more detailed examination of these headphones.

The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x is a slightly simpler version of the headphones that were once reserved for professionals. However, these headphones are popular among ordinary users. The brand wanted to sell headphones that would satisfy more people than just advanced audiophiles with only available features. As with other headphones, Audio-Technica made a name for itself and remained popular for years.

The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x studio monitor headphones offer a very balanced, detailed sound of excellent quality with deep bass. Design-wise, the 2014 ATH-M50x look like headphones more suited for portable use. They are almost identical to the ATH-M50, but have softer ear cushions and three detachable cables.

Package

The package of Audio-Technica ATH-M50X comes with a leather case that allows you to store the headphones and all the other accessories. A 3.5mm “¼” adapter is also included, and the three types of audio cables. Of the three cables, one is a straight cable, one is a coiled cable, and the third is a single 3-meter straight cable.

The three cables supplied are 3.5 mm plugs, and the headphones also come with a 1/4-turn adapter that simply screws into an audio jack or higher-level device. It’s also noteworthy that the three cables are not interchangeable with other cables on the market because they use their own Audio-Technic connectors.

Design & Ergonomy

These headphones’ overall comfort is to be appreciated. It allows us to wear them for a long time without overloading the headband. At the same time, in hot weather, users can be exposed because the foam used in the cushions does not breathe and does not allow air to pass through.

We appreciate the quality of the materials used and the reliability of these headphones, including other Japanese brands’ headphones. Even though they are undoubtedly high-quality plastic headphones, this does not reduce the product’s overall durability.

The headphones are also padded for greater comfort. However, the brand is not intended to impress the user but rather to design, especially in terms of ease of use. This means that you will not find valuable materials such as aluminum or leather. You will find some steel to reinforce it in the metal band and the small metal rings embedded in the earcups. Don’t get too discouraged. The headphones are a great comfort for the lovely finish, including all the headphones’ features.

The sound insulation is not the best we’ve seen, but our neighbors don’t bother us when we turn up the music volume. The earpads could have been a little thicker and more padded to avoid too much noise. So if you’re in a busy environment, you have to be careful that the music doesn’t reach you. So if your workplace is mainly in a noisy environment, I suggest you buy another more efficient headphone.

The matte plastic and silver straps surrounding the Audio Technica logo look solid, with a lovely finish and hinges. These hinges allow you to fold or rotate the headphones 180 degrees. They are ideal for mixing and other tasks. The headphones are a bit rough, and the foam inside is not too soft, which is a shame.

The detachable cable can be stored and transported. The headphones can also be rotated and folded for easy installation. These headphones cannot be compared to the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro, which has a velvet headphone. However, we can safely say that the Audio Technica ATH-M50x is more versatile and can be rotated by 90°. This allows users to adjust it better.

Features & Technology

The ATH-M50x Audio-Technica headphones are closed, dynamic studio, and DJ headphones. They allow professionals and even music lovers to master, mix, and record in the studio or on the record label.

The headphones are equipped with highly sensitive 45 mm drivers neodymium magnets and CCAW coils to achieve a wide bandwidth from 15 Hz to 28 kHz that provides highly efficient performance when recording and mixing different songs. With a sensitivity of 99dB, the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x ensures efficient audio management for all recordings.

Sound Quality

The brand has made the headphones more neutral and accessible to a wider audience. I’ve also noticed that the bass is a bit too sneaky. However, this is a unique feature of audiology. You won’t find this sound in high-end studio headphones.

The main purpose of the headphones is monitoring in the studio, and it is with this task they cope perfectly. Thanks to the low impedance (38 ohms), you can listen with to music on most low-power devices. Furthermore, when it comes to listening to music, the M50X is suitable for any genre.

We tested the device with all types of music, both electro, and hip-hop, and there was no significant interference with the sound. Classical music sounded really nice, especially in the high frequencies, and the mid and high frequencies sounded really good.

The M50x sounded powerful and rich. We also noticed that the stage is wide and the sound reproduction has an attractive level of accuracy, whereas the sound sources in the sound stage are easily located and distinguished from each other. The distortion was not great, only about 0.4%. However, given the affordable price tag of ATH-M50X, the value is acceptable.

The bass, mid-range and treble frequencies (15 – 28 000 Hz) are perfectly worked out. The bass is powerful, but not overpowering. The 45 mm headphones give a very clear and high-quality sound.

The midrange of the Audio-technica ATH-M50x headphones has a flat sound response, an emphasis on the bass and a slight rise in the treble. The mid-range and the lower part of the high frequencies have no dips and are reproduced tonally correctly.

When listening you can use the equalizer, remove the emphasis on the bass around 80-100 Hz and weaken the high frequencies from 6 kHz, which would make the sound more natural.

The sound is characteristic to Audio Technica with a great bass that is impetuous and has good extension. The treble and midrange are also very good. All your favorite songs take on a new color, you hear new notes and new tones. When listening to music with the Audio-Technica ATH-M50X headphones, they’re hard to take off once you hear how good they sound.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the brand can provide powerful and extremely durable headphones. Whether it’s the materials used, the headphones’ functionality, or the design, everything is designed with performance, style, simplicity, and durability in mind. If you’re looking for an easy-to-use cable, the M50x is for you.

If, on the other hand, you’re pursuing a headset that completely isolates you from external noises, the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x is the one for you. The studio monitor headphone isn’t the most popular for no reason. ATH-M50X offered us a very insightful experience, which assured us that it’s one of the best choices for studio monitoring.
